Then you unplugged your monitor. Switched projects. Closed an app. And your carefully arranged workspace became one more thing to put back together.
OrbDesk remembers the setup, so you can switch projects without rebuilding your workspace.
Deep work, creative work, daily admin. Save each setup with a name and come back to it from your menu bar.
At your desk or just on your laptop, bring your saved app groups to the screens you have with you.
Saved setups live on your Mac. No account, no uploaded window data, no extra thing to manage.
Arrange your apps once.
Save a setup for each project.
Open your apps. Put them on the screens and Desktops that work for you. Set your window sizes.
Save it in OrbDesk. Your apps, sizes, screens, and Desktop groups are remembered together.
Choose Restore when you’re ready. OrbDesk brings available windows back to their saved sizes and destinations.
What OrbDesk saves, restores, and requires.
Yep. OrbDesk is currently free to use, with no account or subscription required. The public download is being prepared. Once it is available, you will find it right here.
Your apps and windows, their sizes, and which screen and native macOS Desktop they belong to. Exact window positions within a Desktop, documents, and browser tabs are not saved. Each app controls which of its documents and windows reopen.
OrbDesk adapts your saved screen groups to the screens connected now. On a single screen, it keeps those groups on separate Desktops. If several screens make a match unclear, you choose the destination, and OrbDesk remembers your choice for that screen combination.
Yes, by default. You can switch that off globally or for an individual setup. OrbDesk opens installed apps and matches their available windows. If a window is missing or cannot be matched, it tells you rather than calling the restore complete.
Restoring is always your call. You can have OrbDesk launch at login, then pick a setup from the app or menu bar whenever you are ready. It does not automatically restore a setup at login or when you connect a display.
OrbDesk currently requires macOS 26.4 or later and Accessibility permission to manage windows. It does not need Screen Recording or Full Disk Access. For multiple screens, turn on “Displays have separate Spaces” in Mission Control settings. Fullscreen windows and windows assigned to All Desktops are excluded.
Save your setup. Get back to work.
We’re getting OrbDesk ready for its first public release.
The free download will be right here.
